seriously TWiSTED salon 1.0
Are you ready to try something seriously different…?
Please join us for mmHoP’s Seriously TWiSTED Salon 1.0 and learn about Kristen Fay Gorman’s groundbreaking genetic research on guppies with scoliosis. Using curveback guppies as a model for human idiopathic scoliosis, Gorman’s research is the first of its kind, potentially leading to the development of advanced treatments and possible prevention of this common and often debilitating condition.
Gorman will start the evening with an audio-visual presentation of her work, and conclude with Q&A, informal discussion and refreshments. Hosted by mmHoP’s Artistic Director, Martha Carter.
About mmHoP and the TWiSTED Outreach Project
The TWiSTED Outreach Project offers dancers, performance artists, body work practitioners, medical specialists, and patients with scoliosis, an artistic & educational network that presents fun and informative events—including performances, healing events and educational talks. Inspired by the success of Carter’s acclaimed performance piece TWiSTED: A Tale of Transformation (Vancouver, April 2009), and following Carter’s recent solo, TWiSTED: A Story with a Backbone (Ottawa, June 2010), the TWiSTED Outreach Project is the next step in the development of the TWiSTED program. Arising out of Carter’s own ‘twisted’ journey of living with a deformed spine while pursuing a career in dance, TWiSTED performances combine monologue, movement, music and visuals to expose the complex layers of reflection and revelation around this story of transformation.
